Claude Viet (act. 1698–1729) was a highly talented French Huguenot watchmaker from Orléans who fled to London at the end of the 17th century to escape religious persecution. He was admitted to the Worshipful Company of Clockmakers in December 1698 and was known for his exceptionally refined pocket watches and table clocks. His craftsmanship was so superior that he was entitled to wear the prestigious title 'Watchmaker to Her Majesty' under Queen Anne and later worked for Queen Caroline.
