The name Carl Hensoldt Wetzlar can be traced back to Moritz Carl Hensoldt (1821-1903), a German pioneer in the field of optics and precision mechanics in the 19th century. In 1852, he founded an optical workshop for telescopes, astronomical equipment, and microscopes. Hensoldt AG is still active today as a German multinational in the defense, security, and aerospace sectors.
