Description
A double-bodied cabinet serving as a writing desk, finished in European varnish imitating Chinese lacquer, decorated on all sides with houses, trees, bamboo, plants and lakeside scenes, The upper section, with a moulded pediment, opens via two doors adorned with medallions depicting landscape scenes set within garlands and floral friezes. The interior contains six drawers, two compartments and two doors, the central one of which is embellished with a palace scene. The lower section opens via two flaps concealing seventeen compartments, four of which have lids. The whole piece rests on a curved base with lion’s paw feet set on balls, opening via a drawer running around the base. England. 19th century. Victorian period
