19th-century French school The Lovers’ Duel, 1879 Oil on canvas H_31 cm W_54.5 cm Bears a monogram ‘TCG’ surrounded by the date. This interesting painting, whose artist we have been unable to identify, is part of the Troubadour movement. It draws its inspiration in particular from the successes of Alexandre Dumas, such as The Three Musketeers, published in 1844, or the famous painting by Jean-Léon Gérôme, A Duel After the Ball, painted in 1857 and exhibited at the Salon that same year.
