Paul Louis Cyfflé (1724–1806) for the Toul workshop ‘Portrait of Stanislas Leszczynski (1677–1766), King of Poland and Duke of Lorraine.’ Bust in Lorraine earthenware on a pedestal resting on a circular plinth decorated with a floral medallion. H_19.5 cm excluding the pedestal Damage and losses to the pedestal. Provenance: - L’Hotte Collection. - Collection of Henri de Conigliano (or Conegliano), French military officer and historian (1864–1940). The bust rests on a cylindrical plinth decorated with the sovereign’s coat of arms. This highly successful model was copied on several occasions and in various periods. The National Ceramics Museum holds a glazed porcelain bisque dating from the same period (inv. 40289) reproducing the bust created at the Toul Bellevue porcelain works. In 1766, Sèvres also produced a bust in honour of the sovereign. Exhibitions: ‘Cyfflé, Goldsmith of Clay’ at Baccarat in July 2009 and October 2010 – 250th anniversary of Stanislas at the Tour de la Cloche, Saint Jacques Church in Lunéville in June 2016
