Paul-Louis CYFFLE (1724–1806), after a model by the Lunéville Manufactory. “The Pleasant Lesson” A group sculpture in Lorraine earthenware depicting a pair of shepherds seated on a rocky terrace, the young man embracing the young woman and holding the flute into which she is blowing, with a sheep lying at their feet. Dated to the last third of the 18th century. A model from CYFFLÉ’s workshop in Lunéville is held at the Musée Lorrain in Nancy (inv. 95.898). A Sèvres porcelain version (circa 1752–1772) is held at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris (inv. 28601 A). H_21 L_19 W_14 cm
