CHILDREN’S JACKET AND TROUSERS in the same fabric, for two brothers – Louis XVI period,
fine-weave mottled purple silk, lined with matching silk twill.
Jacket with peplum and round neckline fastened with a clasp, for a boy aged approximately 5 years, height 43 cm. Shoulder width 22.5 cm.
A few small stains; old mending to the pleats of the peplum
Buttoned breeches, for a child aged approximately 8–10 years. Waist: 27 cm, some discolouration and stains.
In the 18th century, from around the age of 5, boys’ fashion closely mirrored adult attire. It was also common to dress brothers and sisters in the same way.
