IMPORTANT WALL SCONCE and its BASE, 18th century, in Boulle marquetry with a contrasting design featuring openwork panels with latticework backgrounds and foliage scrolls. Gilded bronze ornamentation featuring mascarons, garlands of flowers, foliage, scrollwork, a shell, and a scene of a muse holding a book in her left hand, accompanied by a stork on the front; the pediment is decorated with a winged Victory blowing a trumpet. The dial is in chiselled and gilded bronze with 12 enamelled cartouches (one detached) bearing Roman numerals; the movement plate is signed ‘Gribelin à Paris’. H: 135 cm. Missing parts and damage.
