SEVRES, 18th century, c. 1795
Two plain soft-paste porcelain plates with a polychrome decoration featuring a bouquet of carnations and forget-me-nots in the centre within a medallion, and a border of carnation and forget-me-not buds and a blue ribbon.
Marked: RF Sèvres, painters’ marks Tandart and Vt.
Chips and wear.
Diameter 24.5 cm.
This plate forms part of a service whose decoration is described as ‘blue ribbon’, ‘Carmine Barbeaux’ and ‘Blue Souvenirs’, purchased by Citizen Girardot (presumably the Parisian banker Jean Girardot de Marigny) on behalf of Citizen Pascal, secretary-general of the commission responsible for the government of Saint-Domingue and other French territories in the West Indies.
