Description
Greek art, Apulia, c. 340 BC. Circle of the Baltimore Painter Red-figure hydria, the main panel of which is decorated with a scene centred on a naiskos. Beneath the handle, a rich decoration of palmettes and volutes. Beige clay, black engobe and highlights of white and yellow paint. Cracks; visible wear, repainting and losses. Previous restorations using shellac. Preserved height approx. 55 cm Provenance: collection of Jean NINGRES (Toulouse, 31 Dec. 1878 – 31 May 1964), then passed down through the family.
