Description
Attic Greek art, late 6th century BC. In the style of the Painter of Antimenes or the Toronto group Black-figure neck amphora decorated with an assembly of deities and a Dionysian scene. Damage, losses and earlier restorations using shellac. H. 38 cm excluding the added lid Beneath the foot, an Etruscan graffito and an earlier number inscribed in pen: 9215. The vase is accompanied by an old handwritten note. Provenance: the collection of Jean NINGRES (Toulouse, 31 Dec. 1878 – 31 May 1964), then passed down through the family.
