A grooved hilt with a mother-of-pearl inlay. Chiselled, gilded brass mountings. Single-branch guard, with a lion’s muzzle within a medallion. Hilt with an eagle on oak and laurel leaves and military insignia. Blade with a hollow back and sides for half its length, then double-edged; engraved, gilded and blued halfway along, marked in cartouches with ‘Honneur et Patrie’ and ‘Garde impériale’ surmounted by a crowned eagle. EM SF, First Empire period (one plate missing, oxidation).
