Description
Louis XV-period carved wooden wickerwork sofa by C.V. Bara With a scalloped backrest decorated with clasps and flowers, resting on eight curved legs. Complete with period upholstery. Belt-style reinforcements. H. 98 W. 225 D. 65 cm The distinctive scrollwork on the armrests is an original creation by the cabinetmaker Charles Vincent Bara (who became a master craftsman in 1754). Notable examples include the stamped armchair held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York (inv. no. 32.101.1), as well as an important stamped chair held in a private collection.
