‘THE SHEPHERD COUPLE ON A BENCH’ PORCELAIN GROUP, 19TH CENTURY MEISSEN, KNAUF PERIOD, CIRCA 1860–1890 A charming polychrome glazed porcelain group with gold highlights, depicting a young shepherd and a peasant girl sitting side by side on a low stone wall. The man, wearing a yellow jacket and a striped waistcoat, is offering a bouquet of wildflowers to the young woman, who is wearing a mauve straw hat. Behind them is a woven wicker basket adorned with flowers in relief. The oval base depicts a grassy mound. Period moulding and decoration based on the model created by the Meissen sculptor Ernst August Leuteritz (1818–1893). Markings: the Meissen factory mark ‘two crossed swords’ in blue underglaze; historical model number ‘G 1287’ hand-incised into the soft clay; modeller’s number ‘139’ and workshop mark in the shape of the Greek letter Ω, engraved in relief. 13.5 x 12 cm Condition: good overall condition for its age At the buyer’s request, we will be happy to provide a general report on the condition of the lot described above.
