‘THE LOVING COUPLE WITH THE URN AND THE GARLAND’ PORCELAIN GROUP MEISSEN, CIRCA 1950–1970 A porcelain group in polychrome glaze with gold highlights, on a moulded circular plinth decorated with neoclassical interlacing motifs. The composition centres on a lidded urn resting on a truncated column imitating grey-veined marble. A young man in a maize-yellow court dress and black breeches, and a young woman wearing a wide black hat, flank the monument and hold out a broad floral garland rendered in relief. At the base, three naturalistic doves. In the background, a seated little girl holds the end of the foliage. A high-quality reissue based on the original model created in 1778 by the sculptor Michel Victor Acier (1736–1799). Markings: Meissen factory mark ‘two crossed swords’ in blue underglaze; model number ‘61258’ (the modern equivalent of the historic mould ‘F 88’) incised into the clay; workshop modeller’s number ‘192 m’ 23 x 11.5 cm Condition: very good overall condition At the buyer’s request, we shall be happy to provide a general report on the condition of the lot described above.
