Description
IMPERIAL WRITING PAPER AND BLOTTING PAPER FEATURING THE COAT OF ARMS OF GRAND DUCHESS OLGA ALEXANDROVNA IMPERIAL RUSSIA, 1910s Rectangular stationery and blotting paper set, with a green velvet cover richly embroidered with gold thread. The design features the imperial monogram ‘OA’ of Grand Duchess Olga Alexandrovna, surmounted by the Russian imperial crown and framed by two branches, one of oak and the other of laurel. In Russian military symbolism, the oak evokes strength and steadfastness, whilst the laurel celebrates glory and victory. This iconography may be linked to the Grand Duchess’s appointment in 1901 as commander (honorary) of the 12th Akhtyrka Hussar Regiment, whose regimental emblems made extensive use of these heraldic attributes. 26.6 × 36.7 cm At the buyer’s request, we shall be happy to provide a general report on the condition of the lot described above.
