This armchair is an excellent example of transitional furniture: its silhouette draws on the understated style of the Directoire period, yet is punctuated with ornamental details and was crafted during the Empire period
stamped ‘Jacob D. R. Meslée’, identifying it as a piece by the renowned cabinetmaker Jacob-Desmalter dating from the Empire period (from 1803)
