74.5 × 180 × 64 cm
An important walnut, glass and gold leaf console table by Svend A. Thoresen for Nordiska Kompaniet - 1937
29.13 × 70.86 × 25.20 in.
This exceptional and possibly unique console table was created by NK in 1937, under the direction of the NK Interior Department - then led by renowned Danish architect Svend A. Thoresen.
Documented in the official NK archives, the piece nonetheless deviates from standard NK production.
Crafted in rich walnut and topped with a striking goldplated raw glass slab, it exemplifies the rare, custom designs that emerged from NK's exclusive interior commissions.
Notably, it bears no standard NK tag, but instead features a hand-written number - suggesting it was a bespoke creation. It is believed that the NK Interior Department may have maintained a separate archive for such special projects - one that remains largely unexplored.
The name "Berger," handwritten beneath the table, appears multiple times in the NK archives from 1937, supporting a link to a specific commission or private client. When first identified in the NK records in 2013, the table was listed alongside other documented works by Thoresen.
This console has never appeared on the market before - a truly remarkable discovery for collectors of Nordic modernism and rare NK production.
