Stains During the First World War, the Meschede prisoner-of-war camp was a large camp designed to house Entente prisoners of war in Meschede, in Sauerland, a mountainous region in the south-east of what is now North Rhine-Westphalia. The Darmstadt camp was located on a vast training ground a few kilometres from the town of Darmstadt, in Hesse, in central-western Germany.
