Monogrammed R and dated lower right Inscribed on the back of the frame 1929, n° 15 Reichel et Jokl, 21 rue du Cherche-Midi... 20 × 28.5 cm Presumed provenance: given by the artist to Eva Jokl shortly after her execution; collection of the Santarelli-Mattei couple; collection of Madame Malaubert; then kept by her descendants. Bibliography: the work appears in Reichel's handwritten archives, kept by the rightful owner, with the following mention: Painted 8 February 1929, gift to Eva Jokl, 21 rue du Cherche-Midi. Eva Jokl was the sister of Elizabeth Jokl, wife of Geer van Velde, a friend of Reichel. This work can be compared with an earlier work listed under the title Maisons japonaises avec escargots (Japanese Houses with Snails).
