North India, Kashmir, 19th century Large rectangular wooden box with painted and gilded decoration, the lid divided into four parts decorated with a battle scene, two floral compositions and a scene depicting a couple in bed in a palace. The four panels are separated by friezes of rosettes on a red background and a calligraphic cartouche in the centre in nasta'liq. The sides are also decorated with animated scenes and flowers.
