A Belgian sculptor, Victor Demanet trained at the Académie des Beaux-Arts in Namur between 1916 and 1919 and was a pupil of Désiré Hubin. In the early 1920s, he moved to Paris. While working as an antiques dealer, he became a member of the Salon des artistes français. He discovered the works of Rude, Carpeaux and Rodin, but was particularly influenced by the social art of Aimé-Jules Dalou and Constantin Meunier. Very active in public monumental sculpture in Wallonia and in the art of the medal, he also produced numerous portraits.
