Watercolour, signed, dated 4 October 1941 and dedicated "To Laurette in memory of this wait in Marseille" lower right.

At the 2007 PIASA sale, it was stated that "this work will appear in the catalogue raisonné of Victor Brauner's work currently being prepared by Mr Samy Kinge".
Victor Brauner took refuge in Marseille during the war, at the Villa Bel Air, run by the CAS (American Rescue Committee) from 1940 to 1942.
There he met up with the Surrealists awaiting visas for the United States, among them André Breton, his wife Jacqueline and their daughter Aube, Victor Serge with Laurette Séjourné and his son Vlady.
Unable to obtain a visa for the United States, Victor Brauner took refuge in the Hautes-Alpes and lived in hiding from 1942 to 1945.
