Henri Anspach (Brussels, 1882-Portet-sur-Garonne, 1979) was a converted painter after an Olympic fencing career that saw him win a gold medal at the 1912 Stockholm Olympic Games in team epee fencing for Belgium. Following this victory, he studied painting at the Académie des Beaux-Arts in Liège under Léon Frédéric.
He then moved to Paris, where he exhibited at the Salon des Artistes français (1913), the Salon d'automne (1920) and the Salon des Indépendants (1926-28).
From these Belgian and French influences, he developed an impressionist-modern style with a luminous palette, focusing on the calm atmosphere of everyday life and the light of landscapes.
