Bernard BUFFET (1928-1999) Draughts game, 1956 Oil on canvas, signed and dated 56 top right, inscribed on the back "S 53". Height 73.5 cm; Width: 50 cm (dimensions when viewed) A certificate from Mr Maurice Garnier dated 10 April 2010 will be given to the buyer. Bernard Buffet, a painter in the classical tradition, painted still lifes throughout his career. The annual exhibition at the Galerie Maurice Garnier was devoted to this theme in 1988. The checkerboard pattern was to be found in both his drawings and paintings from 1955 until the early 1960s.
