Description
German school. Second half of the 18th century. Attributed to Therese Concordia Maron (Germany, 1725–1806). After a model by Antonio Allegri da Correggio. “The Adoration of the Shepherds.” Oil on canvas. Set in a 19th-century carved and gilded wooden frame. 143 x 100 cm. Based on the painting “La notte” by Correggio, housed in the Gemäldegalerie Alte Meister in Dresden. This unfinished Nativity scene could, in our opinion, be the work of Therese Concordia Maron, a German painter and sister of the well-known painter Anton Raphael Mengs, of whom another version, painted in 1746, is preserved at the Staatliche Kunstsammlungen in Dresden.
