"Born in Buenos Aires, Ruben Alterio entered the National School of Fine Arts at the age of 13. After a period in Brazil, where he worked and exhibited, he set up his studio in Paris in 1973. He then devoted himself fully to painting and also made his works on paper known. His interest in various artistic events led him to illustrate books for Editions Assouline and shows by Alfredo Arias and René de Ceccatty. He designed the sets and costumes for Nicolas Le Riche's ballet R.V.B and Marie-Claude Pietragalla's ballet Don Quichotte. Described by one critic as the embodiment of Baudelaire's 'Painter of modern life', noted by another for the theatricality that emanates from his canvases and for the way in which, with broad brushstrokes, he inscribes gesture into his work, Alterio shares with us his passion for painting."
