Asian Art. China. Large ceremonial shamanic mask, wall ornament from a shrine. Calcified nephrite jade or other very hard stone. Approx. 27 x 20 x 5 cm. Mounted on a plexiglass frame. An exceptional piece, from a former French collection. A giant zoomorphic mask motif with large oval eyes, known as the ‘supernatural beast’, surmounted by a stylised feathered shamanic headdress, similar to those found on pendant plaques and on Liangzhou Cong vessels.
