Asian Art. China. An elegant jade cong, a ritual jade object symbolising the earth and the workings of Heaven. Calcified beige nephrite, with an antique patina. L. approx. 10 x 5.2 x 5.2 cm. Symbolic decoration at the four corners, finely chiselled in relief and engraved: five alternating registers of human and zoomorphic masks with large oval eyes, characteristic of the Liangzhou ‘Jade Age’. Provenance: an old Chinese collection. In the style of the Liangzhou Neolithic culture. Undated. Possibly ancient. Age not guaranteed.
