Two Libyan glasses, rare Egyptian impactites (formed by meteorite impacts). Approx. 163g (129g and 34g). L. 7 x 4 x 4cm and 4 x 3 x 3cm. Beautiful gem-quality specimens, rare in this snow-like quality. Siliceous sand vitrified by the disintegration of a meteorite (inclusions of chondrite dust). Beautiful, complete pieces with attractive shapes. Impeccable natural polish and cup marks bear witness to desert erosion. Site now inaccessible. Egyptian Sahara. ‘Great Sea of Sand’. Impact during the Oligocene, approximately 28 million years ago.
