Description
CRISTALLERIE DU CREUSOT. Set comprising a bottle and a box made of moulded crystal with a bamboo design, probably used for tea. The two pieces are housed in a veneered wooden case with a lock/handle and metal inlays. Monogram on the lid. 19th century. Dimensions of case: 17.3 x 19 x 11.5 cm. Height of boxes: 14 cm, 11 cm. A few small chips, damage and a chip to the lid handle; key missing. Examples of the ‘Bambous’ service can be found on page 291 of the book *L’âge d’or du verre en France 1800–1830* by Fernando Montes de Oca, published by F.M. The model is clearly identified as originating from the Montcenis glassworks. The terms ‘Montcenis crystal’ and ‘Le Creusot crystal’ both refer to the ‘Cristallerie de la Reine’, which was renamed the ‘Cristallerie du Creusot’ during the Revolution.
