Description
CRISTALLERIE DU CREUSOT. Crystal toilet bottle. Stopper carved in flat bands. Bottle with a neck featuring a circular frieze of olives, and a shoulder carved with oblique ridges. The lower part of the body is faceted and then decorated with twisted ribs in the shape of pointed leaves in relief, starting from the lower rim and faceted, alternating with unfaceted leaves. Base with bevelled edges. Circa 1830. H. 22 cm.
A similar decoration can be seen on a carafe and a jug on page 293 of the book *L’âge d’or du verre en France 1800–1830* by Fernando Montes de Oca, published by F.M. The book describes this decoration as being characteristic of Montcenis. The terms ‘Montcenis crystal’ and ‘Le Creusot crystal’ both refer to the Queen’s crystal works, which was renamed the Le Creusot crystal works during the Revolution.
