Description
Attributed to CRISTALLERIE DU CREUSOT. Pairs of crystal tea or gherkin bottles. Domed bottles with rounded shoulders, a central band cut with micro-diamond lozenges followed by a band decorated with recessed olives and a band cut with fine ridges. Mushroom-shaped stoppers adorned with a radiant twenty-four-pointed star. Restoration period style, circa 1830. Height 14 cm. One stopper is stuck in the bottle.
These bottles are featured on page 283 of the book *L’âge d’or du verre en France 1800–1830* by Fernando Montes de Oca, published by F.M. Our bottles correspond to the one shown on the right-hand side of the image, which depicts two different models. The book describes this model as attributed to Montcenis. The terms ‘Montcenis crystal’ and ‘Le Creusot crystal’ both refer to the Queen’s crystal works, which was renamed the Le Creusot crystal works during the Revolution.
