DASSON, Henry (1825–1896). Circular side table in veneered wood resting on three legs finished with gilded bronze feet and joined by a crossbar; the upper marble top, framed by a moulding, is supported by six gilded bronze columns imitating bamboo. Iron-stamped ‘Henry Dasson’. Napoleon III period, after a design by Adam WEISWEILER, H. 75 cm, D. 35 cm. Minimal signs of wear; a flaw in the veneer of the crossbar Known for his furniture featuring luxurious marquetry, Henry Dasson was the son of a Parisian shoemaker, first recorded as a clockmaker and later as a bronze caster. At the 1878 World’s Fair, he exhibited pieces of furniture that would establish his reputation as a cabinetmaker. Renowned for his elegance, refinement and use of luxurious materials, Dasson produced pieces in the Louis XVI style, such as this small table bearing the Henry DASSON iron stamp.
