Description
A sloping lady’s desk with a curved front and sides, finished in veneer and decorated with painted designs imitating ‘Vernis Martin’ – featuring a gallant scene in the 18th-century style and a landscape. It opens via a flap that forms a writing surface and reveals a niche, three drawers and a secret compartment. The lower rail is ornately carved, and the piece rests on four curved legs. Decorated with bronze and brass fittings. Signed ‘Martin’ within the decoration on the drop-down panel. Louis XV style, circa 1900. Dimensions: 97 x 90 x 50 cm. One leg has been restored; there are chips to the veneer and marquetry.
