Saint Rose of Lima adorning a statue of the Madonna and Child with the rosary Neapolitan school, mid-18th century oil on copper 17 x 14 cm A small devotional painting attributable to a Neapolitan painter of the mid-18th century, active in a sphere close to the figurative culture of Gaspare Traversi, whose sensitivity for the human and concrete rendering of the characters is recalled above all, although declined here in a simpler and more popular key. The work, executed in oil on copper, presents a recollected and intimist composition: in the foreground, a saint in a white dress, identifiable as Saint Rose of Lima, is depicted in the act of offering or placing a rosary beads on a statue of the Madonna and Child, placed on a decorated pedestal and surrounded by floral elements.
