Unmarked / Game box Wood inlaid with ivory (Elephas maximus) Levant, 19th century 51 x 22.5 x 6 cm (closed) 51 x 44.5 x 3 cm (open) Weight: 3327g This wooden game box features ivory marquetry forming geometric patterns and six-pointed stars on the exterior, and on the interior, patterns of triangles, lozenges, crescents and stars. The marquetry technique and the crescent and star motifs enable us to identify this piece as having been produced in the Levant region during the second half of the 19th century. The style is in keeping with the decorative traditions of 17th- and 18th-century furniture.
