Born in 1943 in Dresden, Helene B. Grossmann is a German artist who lives and works between Munich and Switzerland. She studied at the Hochschule für Bildende Kunst in Dresden from 1981 to 1985, and in 1982 and 1983 travelled to Central Asia and Korea to study Asian culture and philosophy. Banned from exhibiting in the GDR from 1986 to 1988, she emigrated in 1988 and set up her studio in Munich. There, she first presented her sculptural work in the exhibition *Skulpturen* at the Galerie am Bachfeld in 1990, followed by *Bilder und Skulpturen* at the Museum Waldkraiburg in 1991. That same year, her works were included in an exhibition dedicated to artists who had left the GDR, held at the Albertinum in Dresden and the Deichtorhallen in Hamburg.
