Lambert, ‘English Manners, Robin and Rupert Hambro’s Country House in the Heart of London’, Architectural Digest, March 1995, p. 125. Hans Hedberg was a Swedish sculptor and ceramicist regarded as one of his country’s greatest. He began his career as a painter. It was in 1947, whilst on a trip to Italy, that he discovered faience in Faenza and decided to devote himself to ceramics. In his studio, he rubbed shoulders with leading figures of modern art such as Picasso, Fernand Léger and Matisse, and even welcomed Marc Chagall for artistic experiments. Hans Hedberg is famous for his monumental stoneware fruits and his supernaturally large eggs. His works have been honoured with numerous international awards, notably in Milan, Cannes and Vallauris. Today, his sculptures are on display in more than twenty museums around the world, including MoMA, as well as in royal collections. A museum dedicated to his work opened in 1998 in Örnsköldsvik, his hometown. Hans HEDBERG
