Description
Ulrika STRÖMBÄCK “The Earth finds its own level” – 2016 From the series “Les ponceux de Versailles” Glazed ceramic 28 × 22 cm Glazed ceramic 11 × 8.7 in. Provenance: Galerie Lefebvre et Fils, Paris. Acquired from the gallery by the current owner Exhibitions: Galerie Lefebvre et Fils, Paris, In side out, 21 January – 19 March 2016 Ulrika Strömbäck, a Swedish artist based in New York, combines academic rigour with artistic exploration. Having graduated from Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in London in 2003, and subsequently completed a Master’s degree in ceramics and glass at the Royal College of Art in 2005, her work explores the dialogue between the urban and the natural. In 2015–2016, she made her mark by becoming the first artist-in-residence at the Galerie Lefebvre et Fils in Versailles. During her walks, she captures traces of her journeys on 10-cm ceramic tiles, compiling a tactile diary of her wanderings. Her works, at the crossroads of naturalism and archaeology, play with crackling and distortions to capture the ephemeral. Winner of the Sir Eduardo Paolozzi Prize in 2004, she has exhibited her work internationally (Paris, New York, London, Tokyo). Her exhibition ‘In Side Out’ (2016) highlighted her poetic and fragmented vision of everyday life. Ulrika STRÖMBÄCK
