Originally from Kyoto, Kazuo Takiguchi is an internationally renowned ceramic artist and a successor to the Sodeisha avant-garde movement. A graduate of Japanese universities and the Royal College of Art in London, he broke with functional tradition to devote himself to the creation of abstract biomorphic sculptures. His work is characterised by a unique modelling technique involving the manipulation of large sheets of extremely fine clay, which are folded or draped over moulds to create organic forms full of tension.
