Bodil Manz began her training at the Copenhagen School of Arts and Crafts (1961–1965) before furthering her studies at the Escuela de Diseño y Artesanías in Mexico and at the University of California, Berkeley, in 1966. These experiences cemented her commitment to clarity of form and rigorous craftsmanship. Over the course of a career spanning more than forty years, she has perfected a unique technique centred on translucent ‘eggshell’ porcelain. Her iconic works are exquisitely delicate cast cylinders, allowing the interior and exterior designs to merge and form a single composition when light passes through them. She has also experimented with sand-cast porcelain and handmade paper. Her visual language, characterised by bold geometric abstractions, draws inspiration from Russian Suprematism, Constructivism and Scandinavian design. Her technical excellence has earned her numerous awards, including the Grand Prix at the 4th World Ceramics Biennale in Korea in 2007, and her works are now held in the collections of prestigious museums such as MoMA in New York, the Victoria and Albert Museum in London and the Musée de Sèvres in France.
