Provenance: Galerie Pierre, Paris Acquired directly from the gallery by the current owner, 2005 Private collection, Netherlands Exhibitions: Kristin McKirdy, Galerie Pierre, Paris, 11 March–9 April 2005 Bibliography: Norma Editions, Italy, Patrick Favardin and Elisabeth Védrenne, Kristin McKirdy, reproduced on p.71 Born in 1958 in Toronto, Kristin McKirdy is a renowned ceramicist who has been based in France since the early 1990s. She trained in Paris and the United States, obtaining, notably, a Master of Fine Arts at UCLA under the supervision of Adrian Saxe. Her work, situated at the crossroads of archaeology and sculpture, moves beyond the utilitarian to explore organic and textured forms. Between 2008 and 2012, she undertook a significant residency at the Manufacture nationale de Sèvres, followed by a travelling retrospective. Her career has been marked by exhibitions in prestigious galleries in Paris and Brussels, such as the Jousse Entreprise and Pierre Marie Giraud galleries. In 2016, she collaborated with Christian Dior on the creation of fashion accessories. In 2009, she was awarded the Liliane Bettencourt Prize for ‘Intelligence de la Main’, in recognition of her technical excellence. In 2020, she was appointed Chevalier of the Order of Arts and Letters. Her creations are now part of major public collections, including that of the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris.
