Straiph Wilson is a self-taught Scottish ceramic artist whose practice is rooted in a deeply experimental approach, blending clay, porcelain and stoneware to create works that explore the unpredictable reactions between these materials. His sculptures of human heads, such as the ‘Eaters of Sins’ series, reflect his interest in the inexplicable and the complexity of the human psyche. Each piece is unique, with distinct textures and forms,
incorporating splashes of colour and references to folklore, science and religion alike. Her work forms part of an artistic approach that blurs the boundaries between ritual, power and speciation, in response to her long career as a technician in behavioural ecology and evolutionary biology.
