Description
Marina LE GALL Untitled – 2021 Glazed ceramic 72 × 20 × 31.50 cm Glazed ceramic 28.35 × 7.87 × 12.40 in. Provenance: Galerie du Passage, Paris Acquired from the gallery by the current owner Born in 1986, Marina Le Gall left Brittany in 2009 to enrol at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, where she studied until 2014 in Philippe Cognée’s painting studio. She also attended the ceramics workshop, where the workshop leader, Claude Dumas – a former assistant to Giuseppe Penone – imparted to her both solid technical expertise and a taste for freedom of form. The animal world remains a constant in her work: her thesis focused on the fox, an animal that fascinates her with its intelligence and its ability to outwit the pack. Her ceramics are conceived as three-dimensional paintings. Committed to maintaining a connection with working by hand, with the object itself, craftsmanship and the artisanal, she preserves in her pieces the traces of the modelling process and the sculptor’s touch, which bring them so close to the viewer. Whether they take the form of plants or animals, her figures tell a story: Marina Le Gall creates a world fuelled by a love of nature and boundless imagination. Marina LE GALL
