Description
Jennifer RAMSAY Stretch – 2020 Glazed mixed-clay (porcelain and stoneware) 51 × 83 × 85 cm Glazed mixed-clay (porcelain and stoneware) 20.08 × 32.68 × 33.46 in. Provenance: Galerie NEC, Paris Acquired from the gallery by the current owner Jennifer Ramsay, born in England and based in Brittany for the past 16 years, previously worked for 15 years as an interior designer in London and abroad. She returned to university to study ceramics – a passion that has driven her since her childhood spent in Spain and Portugal. Her studies led her to obtain a Master’s degree in ceramics and glass at the Royal College of Art in London. She has transformed her exile in Brittany into a creative refuge – a space where living and creating are one and the same. The body as a territory for exploration Her work explores a contemporary paradox: at a time when we are hyperconnected, our relationship with the body is becoming more distant, more disembodied. Her monumental sculptures and figurative drawings become silent conversations about this growing chasm between our animal, natural and social dimensions. Her most recent creations question impermanence: how we change, how we evolve alongside the other living beings that share our world. Nothing is fixed. Everything shifts. An alchemy of gesture and time What makes her work unique is her refusal to dominate the material. Each sculpture is a dialogue with clay: built by hand, thrown on the wheel, assembled, torn, twisted. Jennifer RAMSAY
