Provenance: Agence IDA, Paris Acquired from the agency by the current owner Born on 8 March 1990 in Dijon, Luke James grew up in houses under construction, in a family where manual labour was not a choice but a way of life – a formative experience from which much of his work derives. A graduate of the École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts de Lyon in 2015, he now lives and works between Paris and Aubervilliers. His compositions combine playing cards, marbles and coins with raw materials – wood, stone, ceramics, glass, wax and lead – evoking still lifes and vanities. Discovered through the Révélations Emerige programme, Luke James has exhibited since graduating from ENSBA Lyon in Asia (China, Japan), the United States (Los Angeles) and Europe (Belgium, Spain, France).
