ARLINCOURT (Charles-Victor d'). Charlemagne, or La Caroléide. Paris, Le Normant, 1818. 2 volumes in one in-8 volume, red long-grain morocco, double border of gilt and blind-stamped scrolls, decorated spine, interior lace, gilt edges (Simier r. du Roi). Rare first edition of this epic poem in twenty-four cantos.
It is illustrated with two frontispieces after Horace Vernet and a fold-out map printed in red and black.
Autograph copy sent by the author to his brother Charles.
A very fine copy in a fine contemporary binding by René Simier, in rare condition.
From the libraries of Dr Robert Fleury (1997, I, no. 83), with bookplate, and Xavier de Planhol, with bookplate.
The copy has been cleaned and carefully returned to its binding.
