Paris, Béchet aîné, 1825. 2 volumes in one in-8 volume, red morocco, double gilt fillet and extensive blind-stamped decoration forming a large central ellipse framed by a gilt fillet, decorated spine, interior lace, gilt edges (Simier, the King’s bookbinder). First edition, featuring a frontispiece portrait engraved on copper by Mécou after a miniature by Isabey.
A romance of love and mystery set in medieval Brittany, in an atmosphere inspired by English Gothic novels, by a successful author adored by the Duchess of Berry and legitimist circles.
