Description
BAUDELAIRE (Charles). *Les Épaves*. Amsterdam [Brussels], *À l'enseigne du Coq* [Poulet-Malassis et de Broise], 1866. In-12, paperback, untrimmed, plain grey cover. First edition under this title, largely in its original state, bringing together the six banned pieces from *Les Fleurs du Mal* and seventeen new poems. This ‘rare and sought-after’ (Clouzot) collection, published clandestinely by Auguste Poulet-Malassis, was once again banned by the court in Lille. One of 250 numbered copies on large-format Dutch laid paper, the only edition featuring 10 watermarks. The frontispiece by Félicien Rops (a reprint is enclosed) and its explanatory leaflet are missing. A small tear at the bottom of the page; a few loose leaves.
